Final Ballerina Trailer Prepares Fans for June 6 Premiere
It’s been a little over a year since the first trailer for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina arrived. Now, with just three weeks to go before theaters open Ballerina, Ana de Armas–starring spinoff hits the screen, Lionsgate has released the final trailer. Titled “Not Done Yet,” it’s got everything fans could want from this next installment in the series.
As has been well-established in trailers for Ballerina already, its story is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, released in 2019. After killing a major crime lord in the Central Park mansion of the Continental Hotel, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) was condemned by the High Table to be “excommunicado.” Fleeing New York City with a multi-million-dollar bounty on his head, he made his way to the headquarters of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate.
Run by a mysterious woman known as the Director (Anjelica Huston), the Ruska Roma offered Wick temporary shelter while training young members in its ranks in brutal combat skills. Wick met and sparred with some of the Director’s students in Parabellum, who were revealed not just to be dancers, but ballerina-assassins. In one of the film’s most popular sequences, Unity Phelan appeared as a young ballerina, dancing on the stage of the Continental, before being gunned down by other assassins in the halls of the Hotel.
The character of Eve Macarro — now played by Ana de Armas — was that ballerina. Her time in the spotlight in the third installment was only a tease of the complete origin story and introduction to the Ballerina spin-off that fans have been waiting for since first seeing it announced over a year ago. A significant cast of returning characters from across the franchise have also been confirmed to appear in Ballerina ,including Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, and, in his final film appearance, the late Lance Reddick.
Gabriel Byrne, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and David Castañeda have also been added to the cast of Ballerina in major roles that are expected to be further revealed with the release of the final trailer. Byrne is the Chancellor, the main antagonist of the story, and a political influencer in charge of turning an entire community against Eve. Sharon Duncan-Brewster plays Eve’s mentor, Nogi. Norman Reedus is Daniel Pine, and Moreno and Castañeda’s roles are still a mystery.
Ballerina: A Dance of Revenge
Ballari has received two trailers since the first one was released in September of 2024. Both were widely celebrated by fans who have remained eagerly hungry for more footage from the highly anticipated Ballerina spinoff and the overall return to the franchise. As a bonus, they revealed John Wick (Keanu Reeves) would appear as a character in the film, but as has been teased so far in the trailers, he will not overshadow the introduction of the titular character.
The first trailer focused on Eve’s back story. An orphan who was taken in by the Ruska Roma, her sole purpose for joining the group was to take revenge on the people responsible for murdering her father. She is a classic revenge protagonist, and the first preview of the Ballerina introduced that she would be much more of a personal story than the later installments in the saga.
The follow-up trailer dropped in March, which showed the first, teasing interaction between Ana de Armas’ Eve and Keanu Reeves’ John Wick. The two meet in a snow-drenched, otherworldly setting, and while nothing too surprising is revealed, it’s obvious these two will have major screen time together and likel, a moment of understanding for the two outcasts on screen.
This final trailer is even more revealing than the two previous installments, and it’s almost all up-front in the action. The trailer starts with a direct shot of Eve looking up into the crosshairs of Wick’s gun, which sets the darker and more ruthless tone that is not too dissimilar from what John Wick has faced in previous films. It also clearly shows Ana de Armas, fully in character as Eve, and in the physical form that audiences can expect to see her throughout the film. A string of familiar and new footage flashes by, showing all the ass-kicking, gravity-defying moves that Ballerina will have to offer, culminating in a quick punchline from Eve: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.”
Expanding the John Wick Universe
For many fans of the John Wick series, the release of this third installment has offered something of a completion to an otherwise personal character arc that Keanu Reeves has been playing in his series. The announcement of a spinoff following in the same style, but with a new lead character, seemed almost too good to be true and has been heralded by fans with open arms.
The Ballerina, first, appears in theaters on June 6, 2025, which, as the studio Lionsgate has so colorfully noted, is just 44 days away.
